We’re not alone in our struggles…
I will occasionally read the blogs of missionaries already at RVA. It helps to remain focused and determined when things physically get rough and try to be discouraging around here. We so deeply desire to be there – words are beginning to fail to contain the passion for these students that is inside of us! Today I realized, once again, that we are not the only ones struggling to get to Africa this summer:
Load your cannons
I recently asked for prayer for all of our vacancies as a staff. Since we’re all ”faith-based” missionaries at Rift Valley Academy, we receive no salary; all of our money to get here and live here comes from supporters. If you prayed for those staffing needs, thanks. Today, at our staff prayer meeting, we got the report on all of the staff who are already committed to come. And it ain’t pretty. Most of them are currently trying to raise support, and most of them are hundreds and hundred of dollars short of the monthly support they need to work at RVA. I can’t tell you how much this frustrates me. People are ready to serve the lost and reach out to the world for God’s glory, but no one will stand behind them, sacrifice on behalf of them.
I know, I know. I need to focus on my God and not the mountain in my God’s way. I need to keep positive. So instead of despair, I’ll pray and focus on quotes like this:
“I had rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.” Thomas Lye
We are one of those missionaries that he is referring too. Yes, we are hundreds of dollars away from our support need. We have until May 27th to get there. There are many ways that YOU can help us reach this goal: pray, choose to support, tell your family, church, and friends about our ministry. We need your help – reaching Africa is not something we can do alone! We are so very appreciative of those who have already chosen to get involved!
This missionary has two blogs. His other one has a video that was put together by a couple RVA students highlighting what the country has been through these last few months. I think that it is well worth the 5 minutes it would take to view it. Then remember that just because a political compromise has been reached, it doesn’t mean that its back to life as normal for Kenyan nationals. They can really still use your prayers – and so could all of the missionaries trying to raise support to get there!
