God Is Faithful…

So, this is just a quick update to let everyone know that God is so good and faithful to us.  About a week and a half ago, I was calling churches about our ministry and asking them if we could come speak to them.  Most of the responses were negative and even though I am not supposed to let these things affect my attitude, I did.  To add on top of that, our monthly finances which need to be raised have increased as well.  Needless to say, God always has a way of coming through and showing us that He is still in control.  The next day, which happened to be Saturday, we were going over to my parents house and Brooks went and got the mail before we left.  Inside the mailbox was a very significant check that helped to cover the increased cost of living as well as help us get further on our way to having the finances needed to go to Kenya this summer.  The lesson that I have learned in all of this is that God is always faithful and He knows exactly where the money is coming from, so to worry about it and fret over it does no good.

We need to give everything in our lives over to Him and let Him work out the details.  He knows exactly how and when everything is going to happen, and to try and figure it ourselves is just futile.

LET GO AND LET GOD…

Change

Change. It’s a simple word with complex meaning. It singularly encompasses an array of emotions, actions, and life all at once. It can be good, bad, or indifferent. It’s also what we are in the midst of right now! It’s hard to believe that January has come and gone. The first month of the year brought great happiness with family and friends, Micah turning 6 (where did all that time go?!) and loosing his first tooth, and the realization that this, THIS is time for preparation. We are actively continuing to prepare to move (you did read in the newsletter, right? If not, see the post below this!). All of the ‘what ifs’ and ‘eventually’ and ‘when we get theres’ are here. Now. Staring us in the face waiting for us to acknowledge the chaos that moving brings, the reality of how great friendship is and the pain that saying good-bye is already bringing, as well as all that there still is to do…

Change can be overwhelming, but it also can be good. If we’re not careful, we can get lost in the details and forget to live, acknowledge, and love today for what it is: a precious, irreplaceable moment. Sure we have lots to do, but I have a feeling that if we live and choose our actions right that we will not only finish all that needs to be complete, but we will also look back on this time with joy and pleasure! Forgetting the seeming chaos of the moment!

It has been amazing to watch God’s hand throughout this whole process. I am constantly amazed at the provision, love, and grace that He gives us on a daily basis! No matter what is happening, there is great peace in knowing that He is in control.

Thank you for praying for Kenya! We are thankful that peace is slowly coming back into the country! We are also thankful that all of the students and staff at RVA are doing well and are safe! It has been a different, trying term, but the resilience shown through all that are there is a testament of God’s faithfulness and the love that encompasses the school and surrounding communities! Please continue to pray for the country and for the school as they learn to readjust to post election life.

Pray for us as we continue on this journey. Pray that we will not loose focus on our goal, that everything will be accomplished in its right time, that we will enjoy the final times that we have with family and friends, and that we will choose to embrace the change instead of fight against it! Also, please pray especially for the kids! They are looking forward to moving to Kenya, but it is and will continue to be challenging for them as they say good-bye to loved ones, treasured toys, our cats, and life as they know it and trade it for the unknown, a dream of sorts, that is Kenya.

To our family, friends, and supporters: Thank you for the love, support, and prayers that you continually pour out onto our family! We truly couldn’t do what we do without you! Our ministry is truly your ministry as well!

I would like to begin by thanking everyone for their kind words and feedback on our new eLetters that we have been sending out lately. Brooks has worked quite hard on them and we are starting to see the results of that work. In case you do not get the eLetter updates by e-mail (You can if you sign up using the e-mail newsletter sign-up box), we will post an update in our Journal with a link to the newsletters page where you can download the current and all past newsletters.

Two new features that have been added to the Journal section of our website are subscription by e-mail and subscription by RSS Feed. These are different than the newsletter sign-up. Underneath our most recent Journal entries, you will see two links that you can click on. The first link will take you to a website where you can submit your e-mail address and every time we add a new entry into Our Journal, you will receive an e-mail with the Journal entry. This is a great way to keep on top of everything that we are doing as the Journal will be updated more than once a month like the eLetter. The second link is a link to the RSS feed for Our Journal. You must have an RSS reader in order to use this link. To find out more about what an RSS feed is and how to use it you can visit this page.

As you can see, we have been hard at work making sure that everything is taken care of and that we effectively communicate with everyone in an efficient manner as we prepare for Africa.
